Nitrous Oxide, also known as laughing gas, is a commonly  used to aid in behavior management for children with mild to moderate anxiety.  Nitrous oxide is not a sedative but can help in reducing anxiety and pain while your child is awake.  It is administered via a nasal hood that will sit passively on your child’s nose throughout the duration of the procedure.  Your child will be asked to breathe through their nose.  At the end of the appointment the gas is turned off and 100% oxygen is administered via the nose to eliminate all the effects of the nitrous oxide.
